Ricardo Santos stormed round the Lagos / Praia combination of nines at Onyria Palmares in a stunning 10 under par 62 that gave him a 2 shot lead over Jamie Abbott and 3 over Max Orrin, Owen Edwards and Tomas Silva after the first day.

Santos suffered a setback during the final round, going out in a clumsy one over par 37 and this elevated Dermot McElroy into the lead on 11 under par with Orrin on 10 under and looking for revenge after his shock Penina loss.

Starting from the tenth hole of the back nine, Santos then completed the next 6 holes in 6 under par to reach an unexpected 15 under par for the tournament with 3 holes to play.

In the meantime, Orrin had posted a 15 under par total to establish the clubhouse lead and set a target for Santos to aim at.

Santos recorded a mundane par on the sixteenth, followed by a bogey on seventeen to put him one behind Orrin with the par 5 eighteenth to play.

Orrin waited patiently in the clubhouse for Santos to finish up on eighteen and he duly did so, with a birdie 4 to force a play-off.

The play-off began and finished on the eighteenth, where Santos made a copybook birdie to Orrin’s par and so for the second time in a week Orrin fell foul of a player suddenly producing an amazing run of scoring to snatch victory from his grasp.
